Townsend’s Warbler is among the most striking western warblers, with a bright yellow face, black throat, and olive-green back. It inhabits high coniferous forests during the breeding season but is seen widely across Arizona in migration. Townsend’s often joins mixed flocks, gleaning insects from needles and cones. In winter, some individuals remain in southeastern Arizona, particularly in pine-oak woodlands. Its song is a series of thin, descending notes delivered from treetop perches.
