The Hermit Warbler is a rare migrant and occasional breeder in Arizona’s highest pine forests. Males have bright yellow heads and contrasting gray backs with black throats. They favor cool, mature forests with heavy canopy cover. Hermit Warblers are often confused with Townsend’s where their ranges overlap, and hybrids occasionally occur. During migration, they pass through mountain canyons and foothill woodlands, foraging among the treetops for insects.
