The Little Blue Heron is an uncommon but regular visitor to Arizona, primarily found in the southeastern and south-central parts of the state. Adults are easily identified by their slate-blue plumage and maroonish head and neck, while juveniles are entirely white, sometimes causing confusion with Snowy Egrets. These herons frequent shallow wetlands, ponds, and slow-moving streams, especially during spring and summer migration. Breeding is rare in Arizona, though there are occasional nesting records near the lower Colorado River and in the Gila River drainage.
