Elegant Trogon on rock.

The Elegant Trogon, a strikingly colorful bird with iridescent green, red, and white plumage, is one of the most sought-after species in Madera Canyon. This rare and elusive bird, often called the "holy grail" of North American birdwatching, can be spotted in the canyon’s lush riparian habitats, especially during spring and summer. Birders from all over the world visit Madera Canyon for a chance to hear its distinctive croaking call and catch a glimpse of its graceful presence among the sycamore trees.
